My journey into nomadism from the beginning

Hello! My name is Jim Tinker, AKA "BIKE" 67 years old, as of 2018, known as "The Wandering Biker" on many forums and web-pages. 

​

I will be chronicling my new adventure with Vlogs and Blogs, please excuse the amateurish way this will start out, hopefully I will get better with time. My sentence structure and grammar may not be perfect, but the only way is up from here.

​

I would like to say that I am not a writer, nor a film maker, I am very much an introvert and not very comfortable video taping myself or writing about myself for that matter. This will be a new chapter in my life and I have decided that I will try and keep track of the journey and hopefully you will follow along to give me creative ideas that may help me improve my writings, vlogs, and life on the road in general.

 

Back Story:

After the last 15 years of being stuck in a sticks and bricks house, and in a progressively failing relationship that I tried to coast through to try and keep the peace, the decision was made to get rid of the money pit that we both had a stake in and for her to buy a Condo which would be a much smaller space and hopefully need less money to keep up, this time my name was not on the mortgage.   

I tried to move on to other accommodations, but being on a limited SS income, rents for a small one bedroom apartment in this area are way to much for me to handle. So I became her room mate in the the condo, she needed help in renovating the condo and I needed a place to stay, so it became a symbiotic relationship. Unfortunately, a lot of the same problems that plagued the previous relationship  started to creep back into this new arrangement. After a few months, I was starting to get those old stuck again feelings.

 

A friend of mine suggested I look into becoming a nomad and hitting the road. At first I though  she was a little crazy, ME!, that had lived in houses all my life should just get rid of everything I really didn't need or use and start living in a mobile camping trailer driving around the country?

Needless to say, I didn't take her seriously and continued to look for other ways to get out of my situation. I really couldn't see many other alternatives, and the atmosphere here was becoming more oppressive.

 

Finally, I sat down and started to research what a nomad is, I didn't really know how all that worked and figured I would at least get more information on the lifestyle. I started looking at YouTube videos, which lead me to different web pages and forums and I started seeing that these people, that had no more then they really needed, seemed to be pretty happy and they definitely have a lot more friends than I do.

 

I dived deeper into the research and was finally thinking I might be able to do this, even though it is a scary thought to just pick up and drive around the US. I had myself almost convinced that this is the way to go, and then the doubts started creeping in. Things like what if I run out of money, what if I get sick (a Viet Nam Vet so no problem), will I find anyone on the road that I could learn from, or what if I get lost and run out of gas?  Plus a lot more senerios were running through my head and almost made me stop my research. Then I found cheapRVliving and Bob Wells which lead me to many other Rvers that were living their life to the fullest out on the road.
  
A few of the important things I learned is that you can make money if you need to, tons of ways to save money and you don't have to do it alone. This helped me get back on track and I started subscribing to a bunch of different YouTubers and joining forums and webpages. I'm taking notes, making plans, writing lists, looking for the right tow vehicle and toy hauler, putting money away to get some of the items that seem to be necessary to boondocking and to not rely on shore power or a generator all the time. It seems like it's taking forever, but it's only been a few months.   

 

The next installment will be Vlog entries, which will consist of my search for vehicles, what my skills are, getting the vehicles, doing modifications to the toy hauler to make it a rolling shop and home.
